I rarely have trouble sleeping. Since I started practicing Reiki, I've had even less trouble sleeping. But there is always that particular situation that might make it difficult to go to sleep or go back to sleep. This is what I do:
1. I give Reiki to my pillow and/or mattress.
2. I draw a SEI HEI KI on my forehead.
3. I give myself the auto treatment right before going to sleep.
4. I give Reiki to the particular sleeping situation. When my husband is really tired, it is very difficult for me to get a good night's sleep because he is so deep in his sleep that he forgets he shares a bed. I give Reiki to this particular situation and it helps a lot! Reiki also helps with not being able to sleep because of another person's snoring.
I have four stitches on my index finger which made it impossible to sleep the first night. When I woke up, I made a mental note to use some of the techniques mentioned above. I slept better than I had in a long time. As a matter of fact, I have been oversleeping.

Should you concentrate when giving reiki?
I was taught that you could give reiki while watching TV, reading, riding the bus, sitting in a meeting, etc. I am glad I was told this because I might not have committed to just Reiki time while doing nothing else. I like multitasking, and this allowed me to give myself a lot of Reiki.
I was also taught that some Reiki is better than none and that Reiki always works. That the Reiki energy is intelligent and does its job whether we concentrate or not.
After a year and a half practicing Reiki, and having read and experimented a lot, I feel that when I concentrate, I reach deeper levels for the energy to work. I cannot say that you "should" concentrate all the times, but I can say that if you want quicker healing it is worth concentrating. I also feel this applies more to level 2 practitioners because healing is not only physical. I feel it is even more so if you are a Reiki master.
I also feel that it is good to have the liberty to give myself Reiki whenever I want to do so, but I am inclined to concentrate whenever I give myself an auto treatment.
If you are charging for Reiki, there is no question about being really focused on the person for the time agreed. If you are exchanging reiki sessions or giving or receiving multiple Reiki, ask the person receiving Reiki permission before engaging in a conversation with the other Reiki practitioners and try to do this only if really needed.
If the receiver is concentrated, they can see and feel things that might help you direct the energy towards a faster and better healing. If I am initiating chatting with the receiver I am not tuned with my intuition and I am not letting the person experience their own.
If the receiver needs or wants to speak, then I listen carefully to what they are telling me and respect their free will at all times. Some people need to voice out experiences while receiving their Reiki treatment. It's their way to heal. As I always say, we are all different.

My Grandmother and Reiki
My Grandmother is sick and has decided to live in a world of her own. She does not recognize people all the time and has gone back to the past. She does not remember her grandchildren. She has been like this for two years.
Two weeks ago, I started sending her Reiki as one of the multiple distance healings I do once a week. I had always left the Reiki-giving responsibility for my grandmother to my mother, but since I discovered multiple distance healings, I decided to start giving Reiki to her myself.
My mother also told me that she could not visit her one day (a few days ago) and she sent her Reiki and visualized a lot of love, and purposely sent a lot of love with the Reiki energy to my grandmother.
A week later, she went to visit my grandmother. What was my mother's surprise when my grandmother asked for me by name for the first time in Two years! And during that same visit, my grandmother would not stop kissing my mother's hands. She also told my mom: "It is a good thing that we share a lot of love".
I believe that in that subconscious world my grandmother lives in, she feels all the Reiki we are sending her. And she is more connected to the present and aware of what is going on around her.

Grounding Meditation
It is important for the Reiki practitioner to meditate. Grounding meditations help a lot, because they are a meditation that can connect you to the Universal Energy and also Root yourself to earth.
Too much spirituality without ground or roots to Mother Earth is also something we must avoid. While we might feel like flying, it is always important to obtain balance. And roots are necessary to nourish and be nourished from the mother (earth).
I have read various exercises, and have come up with one of my own. I am not saying that I have invented it, but that my guides have instructed me to do it this way through meditation.
Meditation:
1. I like to use meditation music. It always helps me isolate from noises and achieve better concentration.
2. Sit on a chair or stand with your back straight and both feet touching the ground. Even if you are not on a first floor, the ground will connect you to the earth.
3. Concentrate on your respiration and start breathing energy from your crown chakra.
4. Breathe white energy and let it reach your solar plexus chakra. Do as many inhaling and exhaling as necessary until you reach each chakra.
5. Keep on breathing energy, to each one of your chakras until you reach the first or base chakra.
6. Feel how you start growing roots from your feet; feel them sink into the earth.
7. Start breathing also from the earth to your base chakra.
8. You become a perfect and beautiful column of white light. It is ok if the light has another color.
9. Feel how you pass light up and down this column as you inhale and exhale all the condensed (bad) energy that is inside you, exhale sickness, problems, exhale everything that is not Universal light and love. I see myself blowing black smoke from my nose. Continue this way until you see yourself inhaling and exhaling only pure light and love. Until all the negative things have gone out. Until you exhale just breath and not some anymore.
10. Continue to breathe this way exhaling pure love and light as long as you want to.
11. To end the exercise, thank your guides for this cleansing, thank the earth for the rooting, and thank the Reiki energy for the love.
12. Slowly start moving all parts of your body until fully aware and out of the meditative state.
You might be a little dizzy at first, or relaxed. Be careful if you are to do an activity that requires your full attention after this meditation.
It usually takes me 5 minutes to complete this process. The more I do it, the easier it gets to expel all that I do not want inside me and start breathing only love.

First Level Reiki
I was taught that Usui Reiki has 4 levels of attunements and initiations.
First level Reiki is mostly physical. You learn to heal yourself and others physically. You are open to receive energy from the source for the first time and you might feel the energy. Some feel warmth or their hands hot in certain positions, others feel cold, others feel like if there were an energy ball moving beneath their hands, and some other do not feel anything. All and none sensations that you might feel or not feel are fine. We all have our way of experimenting and living Reiki. No one can go wrong with Reiki.
In the first level, I was taught to ask for the energy and start applying my hands on the affected area or doing a healing session. I was taught to just be there and put the energy to good use. Not to give it any intention. The energy knows what it has and needs to do.
It is important that you have permission from the patient for giving that person Reiki. And you might learn to notice, that even if the person has said yes, that they are not receiving the energy. The receiver is the person that decides where he or she needs the energy and for how long.
You can also notice that you might initiate a Reiki session while walking on the street or while you are with a person. Just let it flow and be happy to be channeling energy. The more you channel, the better it is for you. I went to Venice a week after my First Level attunement. I was in St Mark’s Square and decided to go into the Doge’s palace. I started the tour and got to a passage that would go right over “The Bridge of Sighs”. As soon as I started crossing the bridge I felt reiki energy going out of my hands. It was winter and I felt hot. I got a little scared and went back because I sensed too much-condensed energy in that place. I always think that I should have stayed and given as much energy as I was asked for. But I followed my instinct, and it told me to go back and end my tour of that place.
I can also tell you that I had a lot of trouble going up and down stairs. And that is what you have all around Venice; small bridges and stairs. I would give myself a Reiki healing session every night, and I would exchange directed Reiki with my mother on our knees. I was as good as new the next day, ready to go up and down bridges again. Sometimes we had to go to the hotel after lunch, to give ourselves Reiki and continue our discovery of wonderful corners in Venice.

About Reiki and Me
Welcome to my reiki blog. I learn many great things about Reiki each day, and I would like to share them with you. This is why I have started My Reiki Notes.
What is Reiki
I almost started telling you about me and Reiki before properly introducing Reiki.
Reiki is a healing technique that works with energy. We can all do Reiki, we just need to be attuned in order to do so. But it is not a technique just for a few "chosen" ones. It is available to all. Do you want Reiki? Great! Just take a Reiki I course, give yourself Reiki every day and start living better for the rest of your life.
Our body has major energy centers that are called chakras. Whenever you have a problem, illness or something difficult in your life, energy starts accumulating and creating blockages. Reiki helps liberate those blockages and improves your body's energy flow.
When I give Reiki, I am using the energy of a source that is available to all. You can call it God, Budda, Ala, the Cosmos, The Universe or simply call it Love. It is energy that will always do you good, and that can never be used to harm or manipulate.
How I stumbled Upon Reiki
I first listened about reiki many many years ago. There was this person I did not like, who said she was a Reiki Therapist. I did not even care to ask her what Reiki was. I let my own defects get in the way of having learned about Reiki earlier in my life.
Later in my life, I was living in Madrid and a friend invited me to a meditation. I have always liked meditations and anything that can help me live better. If you speak Spanish, visit the meditation Website, there are many mp3s of meditations that you can download for free http://www.medita.es/
At the end of the meditation, there was this man that offered a Reiki Introduction for all those who had questions and wanted to know a little about Reiki. He was there mostly to answer questions, and since I had no idea about Reiki, I had no questions to ask. But I started to get a general idea that Reiki was some sort of healing technique that worked with energy from the questions other people had.
I kept going to meditations and one day my friend told me that she had completed her Reiki level 1 course and that she needed someone to practice with. This is how I received my first Reiki session. Even though I felt sensations and things happening in that session, it took me almost a year to register for Reiki I myself.
I received my attunement in Madrid, from Reiki Master John Curtin (http://www.sanacionysalud.com/) and my life started changing.
My Attunement
I received my attunement on a Saturday afternoon. I had always had cold hands. Now my hands are always warm. Even in cold weather, they do not get as cold as they did before my Reiki attunement.
I was taught to give myself a reiki session daily for the next 21 days while a cleansing and energy liberating process was taking place in my body. I felt physical changes during these 21 days. A secondary reaction to this cleansing was that I was sleeping great, even a little sleepy during the day; and I had to go to the bathroom a lot in the first week. This was my way of cleansing and liberating all those energy blockages that were present in my body.
Why did I want Reiki?
Little did I know...
I wanted Reiki because I suffered from chronic lumbar pain. My knees were pretty bad and I used to get headaches. I was told that Reiki helped to heal, and I wanted to be able to help my body.
What has Reiki Given me?
A new life. Reiki not only has taken away that chronic lumbar pain - I do get it from time to time, but it is not a daily issue for me anymore - it has given me wonderful changes in all aspects of my life. It has taken harmful friends away from my life. It has given me wonderful new friends in return. It has given me a new life in a new Country, and it is giving me serenity, joy, and happiness.
My Physical Changes
I am sure there are many changes I am not aware of and cannot describe. But I am aware of not having lumbar pain daily, of wanting to eat better things for my body, of the warmth that I feel inside me. I had not realized until now, that I do not have headaches anymore.
My Emotional Changes
I am a different person. I am more patient. I always wanted to rush. I do cultivate these newly acquired assets, but Reiki makes it so much easier. I also truly believe that I have to give the best of myself wherever I go. That I always have to clean my side of the street and that it is not my place in life to take other people's inventories. I used to think that everything was the other person's fault, never mine. I see now, that I'd rather be happy and kind than be right!
My Spiritual Changes
All these emotional changes and being able to surrender my character defects to reiki, and fill them up with energy so that they can work for me instead of me working for them (the story of my life) have taken me to another spiritual level.
I want to live better and be happier every day. So my body, my emotions, and reiki are just taking me to that path.
I have a daily ritual where I practice gratitude before starting my day and set intentions of kindness for my life.
I am able to trust there is a power greater than myself that can help me with absolutely everything in my life, that this Reiki energy comes from or is that power, and that I am no longer alone against the world. I am now a part of it that is grateful and willing to surrender my life to what is best for me.
My Reiki Notes
There is no wrong way to do or receive Reiki. Give yourself that gift!
